who was the first person to know your real name?

It was last year when my very dear friend, purple ink, introduced me to blogger. She also taught me how to do it. Thank you very much sis!

During that time, I decided to just use a pen name so that no one except her will know who is behind the love and life blog. I am so ashamed to tell the whole blogosphere my real name. Not because my name is ugly. Actually, I love my name. The real reason why I decided to use pen name is because I just don’t want people special those who knew me personally that I am the one behind my blog. If those people close to me happen to stumble upon my blog and know that it is me behind everything, they might tease me over and over again. And I really hate that. I know I am not good in writing but I am trying my best to write what’s on my mind and what’s in my heart.

But my secret is now no longer a secret. Almost all my unit mates knew that I have my own blog. One of them, actually used to tease me by shouting”blogger, blogger” every time he saw me browsing the net even if I am just checking my e-mail or simply searching for something or anything on the google. But time just passed by. He gave up and he stops teasing me especially when I decided to ignore him. Today, teasing was never heard again.

I also got fun in visiting other blogs. Bloghopping then was part of my daily life. When I got so down and blue, reading other blog made my day and keep me inspired. Until such time that I got the habit of leaving a comment on their blog as my way of appreciation especially when I can so relate to the topic that they are talking about.

Time really flies so fast. I gained friends. And that was a greatest thing on my blogging life that I have to thank the Lord. You guys are really my inspiration and your comments and appreciations about anything I wrote made my day and made me inspired to continue blogging.

Through time, I also discovered that joining the contest or the blogger giveaways are really fun and exciting. Even though I am not lucky in any raffle or contest, the excitement that it gave to me matters most.

When Shai Coggins launched her holiday fun swap, I decided to join. It made me submit my real name and mailing address for the first time to a person I only met online. And at the same time she needed that information for her to send my prize for winning in her contest by completing the 52 WoC task #27-30. See, I think it’s time for you to head over her blog and experience the joy and excitement in joining her community task as well as reading her blog.

Then, as time for the holiday season, sheng over anything goes asked for my mailing address as well as Ms Jo of witsandnuts.

Sooner or later, the whole blogosphere will know my real name.

How about you? Do you use your real name or just a pen name? Why?

at first i used to hide my identity for the same reason, i dont want my officemates to know, they tease and make fun of other blogger, i just want to save my self from their teasing, etc. only people close to me knew my blog, when one of my officemates found out my blog, i told her not to announce it in the office but still i changed my URL for personal reason, i know she discovered it again because we where in the same blog network, anyhow, it's odette who are first to know my name and then jo and sheng and they are one of my new blog buddies, we exchange emails.

it's our right to protect our identity of course, and it's up to us whether we want to preserve or reveal it, the important thing is you are true in everything you post, right? so cheer for more blogging years to come and cheers for the friendships we make. :)

I'll happily tell people who I am and where I live, but I don't like to write it down on my blog. I live in a small country and it would be far too easy for someone to stumble onto my blog and know who I was! So I keep it secretive there, but happy to reply to people's comments and questions through email and tell them almost anything they want to know. I've also given out my address for the swap and a number of christmas cards this year.

Initially I wanted to be totally anonymous. But eventually I gave in to partial anonymity at least. It's difficult not to disclose any personal info when you feel being 'friends' with some people even if you just know them online. But still, we have to be careful. Thanks for giving your addy. =)

In general, I still stick to my pen name. It surprises me that some of the searches leading to my blog have searched through "who is wits and nuts?", etc.

my blogger friends only know me as sheng, and they have seen pics and images of me and my family already, it's fun blogging, although of course i still do not disclose my real me unless they happen to be really good friends and trustworthy bloggers...

blog is a public property unless i-private blog mo siya. ako pen name rin gainagamit ko ever since. yan ang ginagamit kung name mula pa ng nagsa-chat ako. walang hilig ang mga personal friends ko sa blog pero yung officemates ko alam na nagba-blog ako pero hindi nila alam ang site ko. wala akong stalker (sana). mga professional at almost the bloggers are intellectual bloggers kaya ang pag gamit ng kahit anong name ay hindi requirements at no big deal. ang mahalaga nagkaintindihan tayo dito at we able to inspire others. Kaya keep it up!

long time ago, I have another blog w/a pen name; not sure if it still exists. i am now using nance, which is close to my real name because most of my friends are aware that I blog and are excited for me. so far, nobody teased me about it...they find it impressive instead.

i also use a pen name. though my pen name is slightly close to my real name because it was based from it. i usually reveal my real name to bloggers that i'm about to meet or to people that i interview online. it's still nice to keep the pen name online and it also feels good when you get to meet a blogger and reveal your real name.

It's better not to reveal your real name- or kids either because you never know who is really at your blog ;)

But, every once and a while a nice person comes along, and you just know it's ok! Great post!

Since I first started my blog (way back 2002), I used my nickname but I type it this way - MeL. I only reveal my real name (and other personal info) if I become close to someone. I've never met any blogger friends yet but I have close ties with some bloggers. :)

I used to blog in LJ. I felt more "safe" there and I didn't want to get discovered or noticed. And yes, I was using a pen name. I only had my bestfriend keeping me company in my "safe" yet so isolated blog site. Until, I felt the need to connect and to grow as a blogger. So now I came out, feeling unsafe but happier
